Spring Is In The Air!

Critters In The Attic, Gunk In The Gutter, Birds In The Eves

Oh boy, it's Spring! Oh, noes. the critters are coming!
It's true. Our first two calls this Spring were critter calls.

The first was a lady who has birds nesting in the eves, which isn't so bad except for the fact that they ruined the fascia in the corner of her home, inviting rain, bugs, and who knows what else right into her home.

Yes, it could be worse - but we're on the job and able to fix it. As a precaution we're going to fix the crazy slope in the roof there, put in nice, straight fascia, and put a metal fascia cover on the area. That should keep her feathered friends out!

The second wonderful woman called me with a slightly bigger problem: RACCOON
A big one. Hanging out in her attic like some sort of hobo!

At least the little fella has the good sense to run out before I closed the hole in the roof. Or at least, I think he did. Just to make sure, we've set up a trap, and are monitoring it daily. I'd like to show you how he got in:

Yes, that's right. He clawed his way in by pulling up the shingles and gnawing into the rubber flashing on the boot of this vent pipe. Nasty. I'll be replacing this boot with an aluminum flashing. It won't be nearly as tasty. They look just like the one pictured below.

That's it for now, but I expect to get a lot more of these critter calls in the next few days. The birds and the raccoons are looking for places to nest, and it'll be breeding season very soon.

If you think you have a problem with an animal (bird, squirrel, raccoon, possum, mice, etc.) call me and I'll come out ASAP to see what can be done to keep the critters in their rightful home - OUTSIDE, and away from your house. The solutions are usually simple ones, and very affordable.
