Tropical Storm Arthur Is Coming!

OMG! Here Comes Hurricane Season 2014!

Oh, yeah. It's that time of year: the one that homeowners dread, and contractors love . It's hurricane season again. To top off this cavalcade of destruction, meet tropical storm Arthur. 

Yep, Arthur will be heading our way soon. In his wake: missing shingles galore, roof leaks, skylight leaks, overflowing gutters, siding torn off, gutters ripped from their facia, you name it, if it's on your house, you're going to have a problem if you haven't battened-down the hatches and prepared for it. 

What can you do?

1. Clean your gutters. 

Seriously,  your gutters are clogged with tree junk, plants, leaves even  - yes, after years of buildup...soil....yes, I typed that. You really need to get someone to clean your gutters ASAP if you have gutters that are higher than 1 story. Don't try it yourself. I heard over the police radio that a lady fell off a ladder just the other day. Be careful, and leave the hard stuff to us. 

All that water from a tropical storm will quickly overflow your clogged gutters, and probably end up in the facia, or worse, running inside your roof. 

2, Get your skylight properly sealed, If it's leaking during every hard rain, then you've probably got some decking (plywood or tongue & groove) rot that will need to be replaced. If it's only leaking occasionally, when the wind is from a particular direction,  you'll need the flashing replaced, and maybe some ice & water shield put down. Then new shingles right over all. 

3. Get small roof leaks fixed! A small roof leak can rapidly turn into a disaster. I've had several clients call me stating that they've had ceilings cave in. Yes, it happens with tropical storms like this.
